We are very proud of our 5  young men that came to the aid of a bus driver in South Auckland yesterday. They lived out our St Paul's values and school motto - Confortarae Est Vir-Have courage and be a man.

A sample of emails we have received from around the country are:

I've just read about the pupils from your school who went to the aid of a bus driver being attacked in front of a busload of children. I understand that the boys will be commended publicly for their assistance, but I just wanted to add my personal praise for their bravery and compassion. We hear a lot about what's wrong with young people today, and not enough about what they are doing right.  If these boys are representative of the calibre of young men you are educating for life in New Zealand, then our future is in good hands.

Well done to them, and thank you for putting in the work to educate them.

Dear brave studentsIt's so good to know that there are still young people out there who know right from wrong and are not afraid to step up when they see the latter. You put yourselves on the line to protect someone else and that took incredible courage, especially these days when such situations can escalate in the blink of an eye.  The bus driver could easily have been more seriously injured or even killed.  I don't think it is exaggerating to say that you saved his life.  You obviously acted on instinct, which tells me you have good hearts, high standards and excellent values.  I don't know you but I feel really proud of you.  I'm looking forward to seeing news reports of the ceremony which has been promised. You've made my day and I know I'm not alone in that.  Young people like you give a lot of people hope that not all kids are bad and there's still some hope. Well Done!

Good morning ! I have just  turned on my computer and read the NZ Herald coverage about the incident which involved the Metro link Bus driver  and the disturbing assault that occurred  .

It is a sad indication  of how some aspects of our society has deteriorated . In particular the escalating  incidence  of violent behaviours and crimes .

Although reading the headlines this morning of yet another example of this unacceptable behaviour , I was extremely moved by the report which involved some of the older boys who   attend St. Paul's College .

I felt compelled to drop a short email to you this morning  to say how fantastic it was to read about the extremely thoughtful actions of these  students who bravely stepped in to assist the driver . Although risking their own personal safety , they  did so in the effort to   divert further  harm  not only the assaulted driver , but also to minimise risk and distress to the younger children on the bus .

This is such a positive example of courage and maturity . I would like to take this opportunity to extend to the students involved , acknowledgement of their brave  actions.

As a  NZ citizen felt moved by their efforts  ,  and also   by  successfully   diffusing a terrible assault .

Finally , to the  parents of these students , and  to  the staff at St .Paul's College, I say well done for providing a positive environment , which is reflected in actions of  these young men .

Have a great day and  a personal thank you from our family .

Regards

Having just read about the young boys from your school that rescued their bus driver from being attacked I just wanted to say well done to them.  Kids get such a hard rap these days when really the majority are upstanding young citizens.  You must all be very proud. Kind regards, Patrice Hutchinson

Talofa,

I would like to congratulate the fine young men who assisted the bus driver who was assaulted.

I do not normally send emails, but I felt compelled to pass on my heartfelt commendations to the group of young st pauls students who came to the aid of the bus driver.

A man who is quite possibly someones father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend.

In this day in age, it is all too often that many stand by and watch.

Your students are to be commended on their quick thinking, and leadership initiative shown in this incident.

It brings me great hope and pride to know that one of Aucklands long standing catholic boys school, has instilled great values in our youth who will lead our tommorow.

These young men have done St Pauls Proud.
