Community Service 2 December 2022

Joey Schuster

True Selflessness. True Dedication.

Well done to Joey Schuster who spent his term 2 and 3 holidays at the Mangere East Library. He served patrons, ran holiday programmes, learnt and delivered a 3D printing session and daily library duties.

Awesome work, Joey. You're a credit to not only your school, but your community.

End of Year Report

The mark of a great school can be measured by the depth of its community footprint. In 2022 our footprint was deep!

3,432.

This number represents the combined amount of service hours completed in the community by our St Paul's men.  With non-profit organisations like the Auckland City Mission, Auckland City Libraries, Conservation Society, Life Soup Kitchens, Kiwi Harvest, Saintz Rise Up, Ara Builders and St Vincent de Paul benefiting from the service of our young men. It doesn't end there however...

While most secondary students around Auckland were using public holidays, like Anzac, as days to dedicate to video games and social media, our boys were at RSA's helping set up dining halls. During school holidays, they were volunteering for their local Holiday Programs. Weekends were spent planting trees. There were also students who took a more grounded approach to service with many fulfilling their obligation by participating at their local libraries, school bake sales and their parents' businesses.

By participating in a diverse range of initiatives around Auckland, the school has been able to continue in its mission to meet the great Marist legacy of St Marcellin Champagnat. As the service director of St Paul's College, I'd like to thank not only the St Paul's men who fulfilled their service commitment, but also the parents who coordinated, and in many cases, even volunteered alongside their boys. Thanks for a great year of service, looking forward to seeing that ever-expanding community footprint.
