Sports 23 February 2023

1st XI Cricket

Cricket has picked up where it left off in 2022 with an unbeaten start to 2023 across 1st XI and Colts. Our 1st XI picked up a memorable victory against St Kentigern away, with Solomon Nash (Year 12) scoring 64 runs, hitting several big 6's during his innings. Troy Fuimaono (Year 10) made his debut for the 1st XI, scoring 15 runs and taking a wicket. Troy is an impressive sportsman and a name to remember for the future. Well done also to Nico Smith (Year 12) who at the time of writing is one game away from earning his 1st XI cap with 15 games for the 1st XI.

Colts Cricket

The Colts cricket team, made up of students from Years 8–10 has made an impressive start to their season beating an experienced Liston College. Matt Blanch (Year 10), Troy Fuimaono (Year 10) and Jett Nash (Year 8) sharing the runs where St Paul's finished on 105/6 before bowling Liston out for 69 runs! Matt Blanch and Troy Fuimaono were equally impressive with the ball as the bat taking regular wickets, but this win was a team effort with enthusiastic fielding and commitment from all players.

Thank you to Ms Jo Lloyd, Mr Mike Blanch and Mr Dion Nash for their extra efforts in supporting their sons' teams with their coaching and management. We are very grateful for your support. Thank you also to all parents of our cricket teams who are consistent in their unwavering support every Saturday morning.

Senior Volleyball

Our Senior Volleyball team has had a tough start to their season with a narrow loss to Selwyn College. Ngatu Lui (Year 11) and Marcellin Tagiilima Siilata (Year 11) have impressed me with their commitment, organisation and energy in regards to this team. I'm sure Enoka Sului (Year 13) will also be looking to finish his St Paul's volleyball career on a high. This team is determined to qualify for Auckland Champs; keep working hard gentlemen and I'm sure you will reach your goal.

Football

There is a place for all sportsmen at St Paul's College—big, small, with an oval ball, a round one, a racket or otherwise. 2023 will see St Paul's enter a junior football team in College Sport competition. If this sounds like something your son may be interested in, keep an eye on school notices as trials and training will begin in the next month. We look forward to developing yet another sport at St Paul's College and continuing to broaden our sports offerings for students.

Parent's Sports Information Evening

Thank you to the large representation of SPL families who were present at our Sports Information Evening recently. This was a chance for families to learn about what sports are on offer, when and where training and competitions are during the school year. A chance to ask questions or give feedback on our sports program and codes on offer. We are truly blessed with parents and families who are engaged in their son's sporting commitments.
