Sports 19 May 2023

Winter sport is underway with nearly 20 sport teams practising, preparing and competing every week. The days are short and the weather is challenging, however, the students who commit to their sports - even when it's cold or uncomfortable, the students that never miss a training, never miss a game, never forget their equipment - will do well and improve until the final whistle of the season. With Commitment in sport, just like in the classroom - our young men are capable of anything, the most successful sportsmen that St Paul's has produced in recent years, were all equally disciplined in their academics. Old Boys Siliva Havili and Toafofoa Sipley both graduated with degrees whilst juggling professional sports careers. Siliva is a qualified podiatrist, whilst Toafofoa is a qualified teacher, meaning that when they finally do retire from professional sport, they have set themselves up for success.

Thank You

Our sincere gratitude to all the volunteer coaches, managers, trainers and team supporters on board this season. We have over 40 people who give up their time to make sure our sport teams function every week. Thank you for your service.

Junior Football

Our junior football team continues to improve with an impressive 9-2 victory over St Peter's last weekend. New comers to the code Diego Osikai (Year 9) and Michael Te'o (Year 10) are natural footballers picking up five goals between them! Year 8 Ebenezer Asnake is also a very competitive player, whilst Ryan Halfpenny (Year 9) is consistent on attack and defence.

Badminton

Our badminton team is competing against older teams every Thursday at Mt Roskill Grammar. Neil Fernandes (Year 10) is a driving force in this team, as well as Colts cricket and football. Well done also to Josh Benoza (Year 11) who has been instrumental in getting this team on the court. By the looks of things, badminton will grow again in 2024 with another team added.

St Paul's Bootbags

St Paul's, in conjunction with Dynasty Sport, have released 100 bootbags as a winter sport giveaway. The first 100 students to pay their winter sports fees will receive a Dynasty Sport St Paul's branded boot bag.
