Health Centre News 12 April 2024

Kia Ora from the St Paul’s College Health Centre,

Term 1 has been busy for the Health Centre. As well as seeing students who are unwell or injured, the nurse is contracted to meet and complete a health assessment on every Year 9 student. This allows any student needs or concerns to be identified and allows support to be in place early. It also creates the opportunity for the nurse to establish a relationship with our students at the start of their high school career.

Nurse Days: From Term 2: Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Doctor Clinic: Free clinics for all students every Wednesday afternoon Period 5 & 6

Strep Throat screening: Any student not feeling well is asked for a throat swab due to the prevalence of Group A strep in our school community.

  • 25% of throat swabs taken have been positive for Group A Strep.
  • Students either receive antibiotics from the school nurse or by prescription sent to their local pharmacy. It is important to finish the antibiotics even if your son feels better.
  • Families are advised to have all younger siblings to have a throat swab as they are the highest risk of Rheumatic Heart fever.

Vision and Hearing Screening: Booked for Term 2, Week 5 for all Year 9 students.

  • Please email the nurse if you would like your son tested from any other year as they can often be seen also.
  • The Vision team provide free glasses as part of the service.
