Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) 2025

Global Citizens in Action: St Paul’s at MUNA 2025

On the 16 and 17 of May, ten of our senior students represented St Paul’s College at the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) held at Rosmini College. This annual event brings together students from across Auckland to simulate the workings of the United Nations, allowing them to step into the shoes of international diplomats and engage in passionate debate and global problem-solving.

Our team of ten—Finn Lloyd, Prague Chadwick, Owen Turner, Josh Benoza, Joseph Samuels, Montell Laumea, Mateo Afoa, Miguel Gazo (Year 13), Neil Fernandes and Matthew Blanch (Year 12) —spent two intensive days debating global issues, representing the countries of Nepal, Uruguay, and the Netherlands. Each student took on the challenge of understanding and advocating for their assigned nation’s political stance, culture, and values. Their performances were confident, articulate, and highly informed.

The event was more than just speeches and diplomacy—it was a chance for the boys to develop leadership, critical thinking, and collaboration. A highlight of the weekend was Finn Lloyd receiving the Most Engaging Speaker award, a testament to the strength of his presence and eloquence on the assembly floor.

It was also a nostalgic moment when the boys crossed paths with their former history teacher, Mr Meads, who was delighted to see how far they had come. Both Mr Meads and Miss Bragg, who accompanied the team, were immensely proud of the students—not only for their performance in debates, but also for their character. After the closing ceremony, the St Paul’s team stayed behind to help tidy up the venue, a small act that spoke volumes about their maturity and sense of service.

Special mention must go to Joseph Samuels, for whom this was his third time participating in MUNA—his commitment and experience helped anchor the team and set a strong example for his peers.

Congratulations to all the boys who took part. You did yourselves and St Paul’s College proud.
