1st XIII Rugby League

1st XIII rugby league season is underway where the team has started with a well-deserved 18-16 over De La Salle. Fitness, experience and game management were all on display with Head Prefect William Piliu kicking 3 from 3 conversions to seal the victory. AJ Jones (Year 13) defended courageously, leading with his actions and enthusiasm, AJ was awarded Player of the Day by coach Frank Fuimaono. Next up the team faces Southern Cross in what is sure to be a physical game at home.

Thanks to Board member Mr Junior Fiu and Mr Willie Hamiora for joining this team's coaching staff for 2022. We appreciate your expertise and commitment.

1st XV Rugby Union

Round 1 of the 1st XV competition kicked off on Saturday with a home game against 2021's winners Howick College.

After ten minutes of play, St Paul's scored their first try through winger Levron La'Akulu (Year 13) with a spectacular dive in the corner. Howick replied immediately with a try of their own.

This would be the last of their points, as St Paul’s slowly asserted pressure on the visitors through the accurate kicking of Shemaiah Foti (Year 12) and Aiga Aniterea (Year 12).

The forwards set a strong platform through the industrious AJ Jones (Year 13) and Alamoni Tuione (Year 13). Alamoni's work around the field gave St Paul's the momentum we needed, to score a further five tries.

A 39-5 score line is a confidence-boosting result to start the season. Next week the team plays at home, against Tamaki College.

Many thanks to all our supporters and families who were in attendance.

U15 Development Rugby League Team

Our development team for the U15s League have two games under their belt now.

The first hit out against Westlake reinforced the grit and determination this young team has. Even though our team is made up of only Year 9 players it certainly didn't show on the field. Although a loss to Westlake 32-18, the boys pushed until the last whistle without a dip in attitude or determination. It was fantastic to see them put it all out there on the field.

Our second game was exciting to watch with the boys taking on ASDA (Auckland Seventh Day Adventist School). Again this young team pushed for the whole 40 minutes with a close score at half time as we just held the lead 10-8, but ran away with it in the second half to finish with an impressive 30-12 win.

Congratulations to the boys on a fantastic start to their season and thank you to all the parents who have been helping with transport and supporting our team.

Basketball

After a committed pre-season, all basketball teams got to finally play some competition starting last Wednesday. Our 1st V went down to St Peter's, but the old saying rings true: "You win or you learn", and there would have been plenty of learnings for the team in defeat.

Our U17 team came away with an emphatic 49-36 victory at home over St Peter's where Solomon Nash (Year 11) and Sebastian Smith (Year 10) worked hard throughout.

Our U15's maroon and yellow played each other in their grading round where maroon came away with the win.
