Sports News week ending 25 Sep 2020

With winter sport behind us, it's all systems go as we look forward to some sport competition in Term 4.

Senior Rugby 7s

Senior Rugby 7s have started their training and the commitment is evident with big numbers at training. Coach Siu Puletiuatoa will no doubt have his work cut out for him narrowing the squad down to 12 players. Vaka Sikahele, Jeremiah Margraff (yr 13s) and Sefanaia Cowley-Lupo (yr12) have been named in the NZ school's Barbarians wider 7's squad.

U15 Rugby 7s

U15 Rugby 7s are also due to start training through the holidays in what looks to be an exciting team of cross coders. Whilst new to rugby union this year, Quiann Mafoe, Sio Kali, Jeriko Filipi-Talisau (yr10s) have made every post a winner in an exciting backline. With limited playing opportunities in 2020, I'm expecting big things from our next generation of cross code stars.

U15 Touch

U15 TOUCH is due to kick off in Term 4 also, last year's U14 team went through their previous season undefeated so we look forward to seeing more of the same as they try take out the central zone U15 touch grade. Thank you to Mr Willie Hamiora for putting his hand up to coach again, Willie and his grandson Vontae Hamiora (yr12) drive the touch program at St Paul's College - thank you for your expertise.

Winter Cricket Academy

Winter Cricket Academy is nearly drawing to a close as the weather warms up and cricket season begins. I'm excited about the talent, commitment and huge potential of our 1st XI cricket team this year. Siupeli Aho (yr 13) & Solomon Nash (yr 9) will make a formidable pair of opening bowlers while Daniel Smith (yr12) is about to start his 5th season in the team! Justus Telea (yr10) is a powerful batter who is working hard on technique during practice, keep it up gentlemen, well done.
