Year 7 and 8 News

Water safety programme, latest sports exchange, Rangitoto trip...

Year 7 and 8 Water Safety Programme
During Terms 1 and 2, our Year 7 and 8 students have participated in three different water safety activities provided through funding from Drowning Prevention Auckland. In Term 1, they visited Piha Beach to learn about rips and safety at the beach, then had a survival and boat safety session at Pt Erin Pools. This term they went to the Wero White Water Park to learn about river crossings and also experienced white water rafting on the beginners river.

This was a fantastic opportunity for our students in which they learnt a great deal from all three sessions and also had a lot of fun at the same time.

Sports Exchange
This term we have had several sports exchanges including a futsal game versus St Peter's College and two rugby games, one versus Pt England and the other versus Kings School.

All teams played very well against their opposition, and although we did not win the futsal or rugby versus Kings School, there were some outstanding moments of play. The game against Kings School saw several runaways and a score with a narrow margin; 25-18.

The team that played Pt England had a comfortable win over this side, and it was great to see some excellent set plays orchestrated in the game.

Rangitoto Trip
On Thursday 20th May, the Year 7 and 8 students visited Rangitoto island. The trip was part of their current geography unit looking at the geographical features of New Zealand. The boys scaled the dormant volcano, pushing themselves and each other to reach the summit. They had lunch together while enjoying a panoramic view of Auckland. The trip would not have been possible without the help of our parent volunteers, as well as the meticulous planning and organisation from Miss Horne. We all look forward to doing it all again.
